The
Honda Odyssey is a
minivan manufactured by
Honda.
1995
It was introduced in 1995 as a four-door version like on most sedans, not with the conventional sliding door design. It was built on the Accord platform. The Odyssey was the first minivan to ever have a flat-folding third row seat, but it was not usually noted. Many critics thought the interior was too small to be called a minivan. It was
rebadged as the
Isuzu Oasis, which is now discontinued.
1999
In 1999, the Odyssey was totally revamped, with a more modern appearance and larger dimensions to better compete with other minivans. This model was sold as the
Honda Lagreat in Japan from 1998 to 2004, with the first Odyssey continuing in Japan and numerous export markets. It kept the flat folding rear seats, and it generally received good reviews. Many manufacturers, such as Ford, Toyota, and Chrysler began to offer the folding third row seat, now a standard in most minivans.
2004
For 2004 (
October 2003 in Japan), the Odyssey was redesigned for the second time. It is still on the Accord platform. Unlike other minivans, Honda has opted to go lower and wider, rather than taller, for the third-generation Odyssey.
